Ugh I HATE going to the vet every year. No matter what, they stick you with a huge bill. They think we're simply made out of money.

Oh my gosh! I laughed soo hard!! See if you have a traveling vet around. We have one vet that travels to the smaller communities and the cost is less. The past two years out here it was $28 (per dog) for rabies and the dpt for dogs. (I can't remember what it is!) We also have an Animal Birth Control center that also does shots for less than a regular vet.

Once my 3 indoor cats got all of their shots, etc....

Once my 3 indoor cats got all of their shots, etc. and they were 2 years old, I only took them to the vet when they needed it. They've all passed now, but they were in their late teens, and had lived (what I think to be) great lives.
The dog is another story and I'm constantly in and out of the vet's office, not because she's sick but because she has bad claws that pain her daily.
Keep the kid away from the vet's office!

You should check out your local Animal Protective Association or Petco Store. Where we live Petco offers all vaccines once a month at a discounted price and you don't get any guilt to go with it. However, they don't do the heartworm blood test, which is where Animal Protective Association comes in. We are also able to get arthritis meds for our 14 yr old dog without $300 in blood tests first. (She's 14, do we want to worry about her kidneys or let her suffer?) The vet is still happy to take our $$ whenever we have non-vaccine issues. Funny how that works.

Good for you for holding out! I have 5 cats and a damned dog (yes, not a dog; a Damned dog), and I only take the dog and the outdoor cat each year. The other cats stay in and do just fine and they're 4, 11 and 15.
I just give my lab diet food all the time, and even then the waist line is "iffy."

I'm just glad that I am not the only bad pet mommy and my dog only get about 3-6 months of heartworm treatment every 2 years, 1 rabies shot out of 4... But she's an indoor dog afraid the the rain, I mean seriously...

My vets simply threaten to withhold my dog's epilepsy meds if I don't cooperate fully enough. He's 100 lbs. He has enormous seizures. We live in a trailer. It's an effective threat.

I hate taking the dogs to the vet! Hate it! I always get talked into the mega-tests for the good of the animals.

Also, my 125lb Lab refuses to get on the scale and has to be physically picked up and put there. NOT EASY
